Woody was my longtime next door neighbor on W. Franklin Street. It was good to be friends after we became adults, as we actually worked in similar fields for a time (social work and rehabilitation counseling). Later, I worked at the Virginia Eye Institute, and Woody's jazz combo played for one of our social events back in the 80's. He was indeed a talented musician.

I was in touch with Woody when his mother died in 2004 and he was so appreciative of my condolences. He seemed devastated by the loss of his mother; certainly it is a difficult experience for all of us. My brother saw Woody's obituary in the newspaper and told me about it, but I have no details.
