Thomas Griffin

Thomas Spencer Griffin Thomas Spencer Griffin, son of the late Daisy Whisnant, was born on June 17, 1951 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on March 11, 2003. At the age of two the family moved to Richmond, Va. He was baptized at an early age at the Grayland Avenue Baptist Church. Thomas attended Richmond public schools and later achieved a Business degree from John Tyler Community College. He served in the United States Air Force, drove a bus for the Greater Richmond Transit Company, and worked several years at the Richfood Corp. before starting his sales career in 1983 with Kirby Vacuums, where he was currently employed. An avid sports lover and diehard Redskins fan, Thomas played softball with several different recreation league teams in the area over the years. Those he leaves to reminisce about his life will cherish the positive attitude he displayed. He will be greatly missed from his home and the community. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Karen Heath Griffin of Chester, Va.; one sister, Renee Warren of Chesterfield, Va.; one aunt, Myrtle McCargo and one uncle, Charles Griffin, both of Baltimore, Md.; one sister-in-law, Felicia Heath of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Francois Heath of Hopewell, Va. and Orlando Heath Jr. of Petersburg, Va.; mother-in-law, Dorothea Heath; father-in-law, Orlando R. Heath Sr. of Petersburg, Va.; three nieces, four nephews, among them one devoted, Darrius Warren of Chesterfield; a number of cousins, two devoted, Gloria Lewis and Lawrence Hawkins, both of Richmond, Va.; many friends, including his best friends, Jack Dempsey, Andrew Margolis and Eric McCutchen. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St., Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, pastor. Interment Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, 102 South Ave., Petersburg, in charge of arrangements.
