HARDWICKE, Dr. Susan Bohannon, a caring and beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, departed this life, February 21, 2014, in her home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Susan was born in Richmond, Va. on January 8, 1953 to D. Warren Hardwicke and Evelyn S. Hardwicke. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in the first graduating class of women from the University of Virginia, and later received a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from George Washington University. Susan was a well-known entrepreneur. She founded EduTest, one of the few successful online educational testing companies in the country. She served on the boards of the Richmond Forum and the Virginia Opera, among others. Susan was a winner of the Muse Award Winner for Creativity in Business and a three time finalist of the Greater Richmond Technology Council. During her life, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. She was an avid cyclist and lover of the arts. Susan devoted much of her time trying to guide other breast cancer patients and survivors. She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Grant; father, D. Warren Hardwicke; and stepmother, Lynn S. Hardwicke; daughter, Meredith Wouters of Charlottesville, Va.; daughter, Alexa Ellis and son-in-law, Thomas Ellis III of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Christian Grant; and daughter-in-law, Erin Grant of Raleigh, N.C.; son, Thomas C. Grant; and daughter-in-law. Ashley Van Buren of Atlanta, Ga.; her eight grandchildren. Hunter, Warren, Dorothy Ellen, Christopher, Henry, Thomas, Madison and Connor; sisters, Leah McCormick, Dana Matheny, Jane Martell and Lynn Henry; and other relatives and many devoted friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 3961 Deep Rock Rd., Richmond, Va. 23233.
