Ricky Chandler passed away at the age of 71 in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Despite a challenging medical diagnosis, Ricky demonstrated extraordinary perseverance and blessed with an outstanding network of friends and family, maintained strength until a peaceful passing. In his early years, Ricky was the Cadet Captain at Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended Virginia Tech and was happy to join the Sigma Nu Fraternity. The friendships he made during this time lasted over 50 years and remained a significant part of his life. He followed his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Navy as hospital corpsman and served the Marine Corps across the world, including Japan. Following the Navy, Ricky passionately served Richmond area hospitals as a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist for 45 years. Ricky’s free time was devoted to his son, Davis. Together they took ski trips, tailgated at Lane Stadium, and explored the shores of the James River. Whether racing sailboats in Hampton or spending time at the family’s cottage in Colonial Beach, Ricky cherished his time on the water. Ricky was preceded in death by Richard Allen Chandler, Mary Catherine Nissley, And Cheryl Lynn Chandler (Née Martin). He is survived by his son, Davis Chandler, and two sisters Holly Chandler and Kent Elander. Fair winds and following seas, sailor. Funeral Services will be held at Bliley’s Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd, Richmond, VA 23228, on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family invites friends to join them at Ricky’s home following the service.
